~ Tanzania ~

The annual wildebeest migration across the Serengeti has long been considered one of the natural wonders of the world and our safaris in Tanzania concentrate on optimizing observation of this event. We also visit Tarangire National Park, which holds the second largest population of wildlife per square mile within Africa. That unrivalled gem, Ngorongoro Crater, is also included in all itineraries.

Safaris begin with a visit to the beautiful Arusha Park that features a forest on the mountain slopes of Mt. Meru and the magical Ngurdoto Crater. You will see abundant wildlife and with luck will view the rare Black & White Colobus monkeys.

You will continue to Tarangire National Park, known for its large herds of elephant and distinctive baobab trees. The open bush country is excellent bird habitat and it holds a number of interesting mammals, such as the dikdik which can be viewed at close quarters. The luxurious camp with spacious tents and attentive staff sets the tone for the feel of a bygone era.

All safaris include a visit to Gibbs Farm, a beautiful little lodge serving home grown coffee, vegetables and dairy products. It is nestled in the foothills of the cool, virgin forests of the Ngorongoro Crater Highlands and lovely walks and bird watching expeditions can be arranged. It provides a good base for a day visit to the Crater, where there are large numbers of plains game and the attendant predators; lion, hyena and jackal.

It is then onwards to the famous Serengeti, where you will be staying in exclusive tented camps. Depending on where the migration is at the time, you will either visit the famous plains at the southern end of the Park, or you will fly to the north, close to the Kenya border, where you may be lucky enough to catch the amazing sight of the wildebeest herds crossing the Mara River. Either way there is plenty of other game to be seen, including lion, leopard, zebra, Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelle, all from custom adapted 4 wheel drive vehicles with knowledgeable guides.
